The project UNTITLED, Nevada 2007, shows images captured during the year's Burning Man, an annual art festival and temporary community based on radical self expression and self-reliance which takes place at the end of August in the Desert of Nevada. The outcome of this festival is a glowing temporary community that closely resembles movies such as 'Mad Max'. The atmosphere is surreal, the participants become a real tribe, the burner, in a sort of collective celebration of the mind, spirit, body and creativity. I decided to provide complete freedom of interpretation to the spectator who will see the images, in order to allow his/her mind to be dislocated by the view of something that feels like another impossible yet real dimension. However I have decided to name the location so as to bring into people's mind, the images of nuclear tests that so widely took place in that state, Nevada, in the '50s. In fact these images could reveal a happy post-nuclear community, where all the inhibitions and restraints and codes of our society have been washed off by one of the most powerful instruments of technology. |
