I’m not really in a position to offer suggestions on how to get into the industry, as there aren’t any rules. I do think it’s important to stay true to your art. Why did you start taking photos in the first place is a question you should ask yourself from time to time. Having a job that pays the bills but isn’t related to photography can be frustrating sometimes but it can also be a good source of inspiration. Always allow yourself enough time for your own shooting projects otherwise it becomes a 9-5er.

People wanting to get into the industry should find a style/aesthetic and be true to it. Your style could be picked up one day because it's fashionable but it could just as easily be dropped. Like anything else, it’s cyclical.

I’d like to say I'm making a living at my own photography, but I’m not really at the point of totally letting go of a steady income as I have to be prepared for the dry spells. I work part time in a restaurant.
