I initially carve in
stone as my inspirational jumping off
point. I tried once to skip that and go straight to the wax, and it was
a
humbling experience. A solid green wax block, doesn't turn me on. The first collection was inspired organically by each stone and its individual variables -- but as a composition, the collection is a sequence of transformations. A narrative of forms that becomes disturbed by a surface condition. A play off mythology, and that wonderful world of fancy. I named each ring after a real or an imagined feminine spirit in my life, each denoting a particular essence. The forms are meant to accent the pronunciation of the hand. The weight is a reminder, and enables the gestures to be more grandiose. Surrealism produced some of my favorite works, Dali, Gaudi. But the old Hollywood glamor epitomizes lavish lifestyle. Tony Duquette was a jewelry designer, set designer, costume designer, he did it all - and he designed for all. His work is amazing! |
