My inspiration for food photography is two-fold. There's the fact that I love to cook, but I also enjoy staging the 'lifestyle' aspect of it, which goes hand in hand with this genre of photography. I love finding new crockery and other items that could be used to create a certain feel or colour scheme to pictures. My most ambitious project involving food photography so far was putting together a smoothie calendar for 2007. I experimented a lot and created all the recipes myself, which was great fun. I tried to create a distinct colour scheme for each month, and went as far as borrowing a tray from a friend in England just for one shot to be taken in Finland. In my mind the picture just wouldn't have worked without it! Even though I didn't make much profit financially from the project, I was happy that the calendar proved very popular and people seemed to respond to it in an entirely positive way.
