Concerning this particular series of photographs, titled “Roach Motel,” Sabine explains why roaches check in but never check out: “because it is so nice to stay there. Roach Motel isn’t just a regular trap where roaches die, in (my) reality it is an all-inclusive spotlessly clean high-class luxury hotel with gourmet food.”
 
Sabine’s draw to the subject matter is that she considers roaches “fascinating.” “With their enormous resistance and adaptability they became worldwide the most successful insect. In New York City roaches rule and they are just everywhere. Even if it is possible to dam their outbreak people got used to their appearance and the fact that they’ll never get rid of them.”
