My work is symbolic but I leave this way of confronting my work to the spectator. As far as I'm concerned, when I am preparing a photo, I don't say to myself "yes, I'll put a fish here to symbolize..." I am guided by my instinct, or what some would call my unconscious. It is only afterwards that perhaps, such an object appears to be symbolic.

When everything has been hashed and rehashed, when concepts, the assassins of mystery, have spewed out preemptive definitions, the viewer is left with nothing but unspeakable boredom. It is the dichotomies among the feelings of the model, the intentions of the artist and the projections of the viewer - it is this very ambivalence that forms, in my opinion, the essence and the richness of art.
