Nimoy depicted his Shekhina as a flesh and blood woman, rather than some figure in a foggy mist in a cloud somewhere. "This work is my quest for insight, the exploration of my own spirituality, and, as such, has been a deeply moving and expanding process.'' He had worked with the female figure for a while before he started thinking of it as spiritual work and now says "What I’m dealing with in that thematic area is probably the most interesting and profound work that I’ve done. It has to do with a number of issues such as the masculine/feminine balance, materialism vs. spirituality, good vs. evil, and beauty and modesty in confrontation with each other."
