I wanted the images to show a slight air of oddness, by lighting the scenes in an unusual way, or being unexpectedly ambiguous – such as the girl lying across the street with eggs spilling on the road, or the girl in a school uniform wading in the pond.

I found it important to relay a sense of freedom that most of us enjoy in our home environments during our teenage years. For example, in the United States, where I spent much of my childhood, it got very hot in the summer, and I would run around the house in swimwear all day, even when picking up the milk at the front of the house.

In hindsight, I have to think that the subject matter is a reflection of my own childhood and adolescence, captured and interpreted many years later by my own camera.
