My
work is based on social commentary in the present and the past.
Questions that are being asked today about body image, war,
destruction, joy, seem to be on a continuum -- just as relevent today
as they were years ago, and will be in the future. Because my series change, it’s difficult to explain exactly what each means. “The Spaghetti Eaters,” for example, relates to a woman’s relationship with food and body image. The surprising thing is that the heaviest woman in the group, the one who’s unattractive by society’s standards, ends up being the beautiful one and the center of attention in many of the works. Other works are more abstract and will mean something different to everyone who sees them. One thing all the series have in common is their relationship to sculptural form and the use of the model as a concept as opposed to an individual character. |
