These images are from a personal collective called “the Sweater” They come from multiple sessions with various subjects. The thread (or in this case, wool) that binds them together is the same sweater. In two and a half years I have photographed over ninety subjects, ranging in age from 5 years old to forty years old, in the same sweater.

The sweater was purchased at a used clothing store for $1.00 on January 9th, 2002 . I didn’t even shoot with it until September 5th of the same year. On that day I decided to bring it along on a shoot I had arranged. As the session progressed and we were deciding on wardrobe changes, I suggested the sweater as an accessory. The model emerged from the change area wearing a vintage half slip and the sweater open to the waist and nothing else. This was my first impression of a project in the making.

Through the sweater I was able to show how you can find almost three years of inspiration for a dollar.

The sweater disappeared following a shoot on 2005. (News of the Sweater's disappearance has lead to an number of cardigan donations being made to the studio, I just haven’t decided if I should continue with another sweater or not). The Sweater was starting to take on a life of it’s own and I’m continually getting calls from people wanting to be included in the series.
