The Underwood typewriter was shot on 4x5 film, the diffused light was exposed through a Vaseline smeared piece of coated glass used in framing pictures.

I often use radio slaves to help trip the secondary flash units used for the spectral highlights, so I don't have to run around the studio popping flashes.

So there you have it, a short introduction to creating truly "spectral" highlights (of the ghostly variety).
