Karkau was born in Bernburg,
Germany. He studied interior design in Berlin before moving to
photography in 1987. Eventually choosing fashion as a specialty, he
assisted many top photographers in Milan before moving to Dusseldorf in
1990 where he now works in fashion and advertising.
In 2003 Karkau released Models Secret his first book which went beyond the clothes all the way to the models. The 11x14 inch book was picked by Michelle 7 as one of the best of 2003.
