My very own alpaca line, “Freudenthal” finally, after 4 years of studying the subject and acting as an image advisor to my friend Liliana’s firm I summoned the courage to take my scissors to such a fine fabric, fine indeed, for it has been called “the other gold of the Andes”, it is organic, thermal, water resistant, soft, luminous and more durable than cashmere and mohair, besides being impregnated with the strange magnetism of the andean highlands and woven into the traditions of my people. They had no written language so they expressed their history, both collective and personal, in the colors and shapes of their day to day clothes and ceremonial outfits. It is these people’s descendants who, with uncanny skill, help me to turn my dreams into realities; they are the reason for this enterprise, it serves also as the starting point for the the “Ahayo” project; through which my partner, Jose Ignacio Flores, and myself, intend to put our grain of sand in the fight against poverty via our www.ahayo.com web site. It will feature a broad selection of products, news and material concerning fashion, to see our country grow and to rise again after the fall, the word “Sayari” sums up this feeling in the Quechua language, it is the name of the first group of artisans that we have worked with; and they are rising, leading through example, I have put all my efforts into it, and even used my own firm as our spearhead. |
The military style is in my blood;
I just can’t help it, this jacket
just proves my point, the whole photo shoot took place at the newest
and trendiest club in my city of La Paz, it is called Traffic, and has
the virtue of transporting me to a different reality of contemporary
sophistication, I wish it could illustrate the weird metropolitan feel
of my home town.
Please note that the photos are not really finished yet (there’s a lot of retouching to do) But I can't help being a fan of my friend Enrique, we have done our share of fashion productions and his work, that I’m planning to show you soon, is outstanding (or so I think).
