Lewis Carroll was a well-respected portraitist in the 1850s, using the wet collodion process.

He was a clergyman and taught Mathematics at Oxford. He learned photography from his uncle. Carroll's subjects included such luminaries as Alfred Lord Tennyson. He also photographed children, including Alice Liddell.
