If I had to describe
myself I'd say I was passionate, persistent with a
splash of patience. In lieu of fame and fortune I have become aware of
how hard-driving and disciplined today’s successful artists are. In
order to make it in this highly competitive & talented world of
illustration, one needs to be passionate, hard working, disciplined and
persistent. Coming from a French-German background I could almost link
those characteristics to my German side. My French side is more
impatient and emotional and reminds itself of the joie de vivre. Shortly before graduating from the Master of Fine Arts Program at School of Visual Arts in New York, I was honored to receive my first commission: an illustration for the New Yorker. My work has been honored with numerous awards and exhibited at BMW (New York), Thomas Werner Gallery (New York), The Society of Illustrators, American Illustration, La Samaritaine (Paris), just to name a few. I have also had the honor of working for Walt Disney Co. on a tote bag design to be printed this year. And for the past three years my artwork has been chosen for the labels of Bonny Doon Vineyard ( Santa Cruz) wines, including the full packaging of a Valentines day special wine that came out in February 2005. I was born in Germany and raised in France, I completed my undergraduate work in Duesseldorf, Germany. I always wanted to be an artist, however my mother insisted on my having a "decent job". Therefore I started studying Grafic–Design in order to have a solid foundation. Working extensively on 5 children’s books over a year , I realized that I needed more specific artistic training. After considering graduate studies in London, I moved to Manhattan where I received my graduate degree earning an MFA from the School of Visual Arts. I ended up choosing Manhattan as I needed a real distance to Europe, to start the true search for my own artistic voice. |
