I love the work of guys like Stephen Shore and William Eggleston, as well as Glenn Slogget—he’s Australian—but they share a similar vibe. They all have a beautiful eye for composition and colour, and use it to transform even the most banal of found scenes.

On the other hand, I also love the work of Jeff Wall and Gregory Crewdson and Charlie White—artists who construct and manipulate each minute detail of their work. They sound like the polar opposite of the guys I mentioned earlier, but I find both sets of artists have a profound appreciation of the ordinary. I think that’s the most exciting aspect of all of them—the way they can bring beauty and awe to the most docile and domicile of moments.
