How did I get into photography? It’s the same old story really! My dad is a very keen amateur photographer, so I grew up around him taking lots of pictures and he taught me how to use a proper SLR camera. It wasn’t until I left school that I really thought about it as a career though. I enrolled in a part-time course and then went on to do a HND in photography at college. I feel quite lucky in that all my tutors have been very encouraging and inspiring, I think that can make a huge difference.

I’ve always been drawn to portraiture even from the very beginning when I hardly knew a thing about photography, I find people fascinating. I still have two portraits that I cut out of a magazine supplement about 6 years ago and blue-tacked up on my wall. I have no idea who took them, but something about them makes me want to take photographs. I feel like I’m still finding my style and there’s a lot I want to explore, but I’m definitely moving more toward fashion now.

I used to think that I created my images with a character and a back story to them but I realise now it’s not about that, it never was, it’s about creating a mood or an emotion for me.
