When I am working on a fashion shoot, whether I have come up with the concept or there is an art director, I've found it really is important to have the right team for the job. Generally a make-up artist, hair stylist, and stylist need to all understand what the shoot is supposed to be about. Everyone's job is important and at the end of the day everyone has to do it well or it will reflect badly in the work. It is always disappointing when things don't go right but the best you can do is learn from the experience. Being a photographer is not always as easy as just clicking a shutter. It is always good to have a spark with the model and be able to communicate what you want to do. If they are relaxed and feel comfortable it will show in the images. I find it is always important that the model knows what is going on. It's easy to forget about them and expect them to just perform but they often go into it not having any idea what you want or what you're doing. It's just basic manners.
