I had a teacher for a 19th century photography class, Dan Estabrook, an incredible artist, the class was at Penland School of Craft in North Carolina.  He really got me to think about photography differently.  Although I mainly work in color and print digitally now, he really taught me to consider the significance of everything that I put in a photograph.  When you work in some of those time consuming processes hand coating paper and working with one negative for a prolonged period, you really want to have an image that can keep your interest for that long.

I now specialize in creating tiny landscapes and scenes.  Lighting is probably the most enjoyable part of the process for me, I can lose myself for long stretches of time trying to get the lighting just right on a particular element in a scene.  It is a challenge to light something small in a confined space and make it feel bigger.  I also aim for a sense of drama in the lighting and it is very satisfying to achieve that.

I work mostly alone, although I do enjoy sharing a studio and being able to bounce ideas off of someone.  I also need a place where I can make a mess!
