Beginning

I grew up in Eugene Oregon which was a great place for a child interested in art, not because there is much of an art scene there, but simply because the hippy/ counterculture influence has given the city a great anything-goes type of atmosphere.  That sort of kept me from forming too many preconceptions about what art should and shouldn't be at a young age, not  that growing up in  big city with amazing museums wouldn't have been nice too.

I went to college pretty much set on majoring in anything besides art since I had decided I couldn't make a living on it.  That didn't end up turning out so well, but I did end up with a nice minor in History.  I focused on sculpture for a couple of years and did some drawing and painting, but gravitated towards photography in the end.  I have always loved photography's ability to reference reality even when everything in the photograph is artificial.
