When I was a kid I really wanted to be an artist. I would take photographs and use them as research for drawings and paintings.

I ended up going to art college in Edinburgh, where I did a 5yr MA in Fine Art. The only problem was that after 3 years I knew that I wanted to be a photographer – so I went off travelling to build a portfolio.

Two years later I touched back down in the UK. I still wanted to be a photographer, but I didn't have a clue how to go about it. I didn't even know what an aperture was. So I went back to college, this time in Bournemouth to the same school that Nick Knight and Wolfgang Tillmans attended.
