The River Phlegethon

I moved to Santa Barbara to attend photography school. Being an adrenalin junkie I originally had the intention of hanging off cliffs shooting erupting volcanoes. I quickly learned that my talent was in shooting people. People tend to become very comfortable with me, and the shoot becomes more intimate. The connection with the talent is the most important part of my work. I love life and I love what I do, I surround myself with talented people who have become my family.

I started an internship with a celebrity photographer in LA while still in school. Within days I was the new studio manager. In the weeks following I began producing jobs, both editorial and advertising, inventing new methods to cut costs and earn money as I went. I fell in love with the business in the same capacity that I love shooting.

I started shooting clothing companies and ad campaigns my first few months at school. I soon started receiving awards and recognition for my work. After graduation I was named one of the top 6 emerging pros by Epson, Microsoft and Calumet. Soon after, “Carrie Schechter The Bold and the Beautiful” was written in Digital Photo Pro, and it's continued to be a steady walk up the mountain ever since.
