Alabaster has some of the most amazingly organic and flesh like features--the opacity between layers changes, veins are exposed--and this was it...why I loved biology, and was so fascinated by. I remember the first time I was asked to take a fresh placenta down to the lab for testing, I had seen numerous deliveries, but this was the first time I got to contain the placenta, investigating it up close. It may sound grotesque, but this was truly the most beautifully textured piece of hardware I have ever seen.

I found that most of what I design (between my jewelry line and my architecture aesthetic), definitely takes on an anthropomorphized twist, clearly referencing the biological appeal.

The way muscles and tendons attach themselves to bone, how intricately woven and braced they are in anticipation of movement. Bone malformations, genetic mutations, and the surgery tools!!! Funny what turns you on!
