The works in Things I Never Told You “suggest narrative,” explains Risa Puleo in the gallery’s catalog for the series, “but one that is ambiguous and unresolved within the image itself.” Prince Martin attributes some of this need to tell a story – cryptic and semiotic – from her experience with cinema.  It’s an important part of her process.  “A narrative is implied” says Prince Martin, “and then I carefully disrupt the normal order of things until the photographs resemble secrets, thoughts, epiphanies, longings – things that are just too difficult to explain otherwise”.
