Do you have that one item in your possession that, when you wear it, people feel as if it's their duty to stop you in the street and find out Exactly where you got it?

Would you like to have that one staple piece (or many staple pieces) that when people see it they just know it's yours, as if it was made just for you to own?

I can't tell you how many times I’ve changed my personal style already because of accidentally coming across the most wonderfully different “must have” piece. Ever since I can remember I was all about being a trendsetter. Whether I knew I was doing it or not I’ve always seemed to gravitate towards the funky side of things. Developing an individual style is just part of growing up and there are going to be many times in our lives where we are going to want to reinvent ourselves as young women and men to keep things fun and fresh. What better way to do that then with a one of a kind vintage piece?

Here are 9 tips to help you find what you're looking for whether it be some funky retro glass beads or that rockin’ ¾ suede trench coat you’ve been dying to have:

1) Check Your Local News Papers EVERY DAY – Check for yard sales, Auctions, personal sales and notices of events that may be going on in your area. What might be trash to someone else could be your treasure. The Clothing Show in Toronto is always good to check out, with brand spanking new designers you're definitely going to get a one of a kind something.

2) Listen To The “Word on the Street”- Keep your eyes and ears open when you're downtown. Girls love to dish about everything. Sometimes props/clothing and accessories from movie sets are sold at random street markets. Most of them are never advertised, just spread by word of mouth so who knows what vintage markets you could discover just by being aware.

3) Make Sure To Go With A Friend With The SAME Goal In Mind- There is certainly nothing worse then going out with someone who is going to rush you in and out of everywhere you stop. Make sure you go with someone that enjoys the hunt as much as you do. Sometimes you have to dig through everything, so try to make an adventure out of it and make your shopping experience as fun as possible.

4) Remember Sometimes A Splurge Is Worth It- please, please, please don’t buy something just because it was “on sale” or “a great price”. Just because it was cheap doesn’t mean its good to have, it just means that nobody else wanted to buy it either. I can't tell you how many times I've heard someone say “it was just such a great sale, I had to buy it, I’ll just put it away till I can use it”. If you can’t use it now don’t buy it at all! Sometimes the splurge is worth it, especially if it’s an original or unique piece!
