Virgil Brill requires some effort. His work is not easy to see, either physically or emotionally. No sharp, contrasty, grainless, perfectly exposed digital images here. Yet, when I saw this image I was immediately taken back to my childhood. I grew up on the beach and when I close my eyes I still see a young girl walking out of the water with the sun behind her and the light reflecting off the waves. It's not so much a girl as the impression of a girl wavering and shimmering.

I had to know a bit more about this photographer who so easily captured the spirit of my youth.

You might want to boost the brightness and contrast of your monitor a little.
