A Clockwork Orange presented another challenge. Given our constraints, how could we present this ultra-violent work -- a nightmarish vision of a future where roaming gangs commit acts of unspeakable violence? We decided to focus not on the brutality, but on the brute himself -- the sneering, sadistic Alex. For wardrobe, Emily fashioned white coveralls, reminiscent of the gang uniform, and topped it with a black bowler. Makeup artist Amanda Wood replicated the asymmetrical eye treatment, including the trademark single false lash. The rest was left to model-actress Anna von Frances, who immersed herself in the role. Her cocky, swaggering stances oozed machismo, which was accentuated by the aggressive wielding of a walking stick. She produced an astonishingly convincing silhouette.
