Fashion Supremacy

By: Kimea Blake

Our Fashion editor sits down with Knitwear Designer Beata Dirycz to talk passion, drive and the secrets to high fashion supremacy.

How did you get started in this particular business (fashion)?

When I was about 6 years old I was taught by one of my grandmothers how to knit my first scarf. My other grandmother was very creative and created beautiful clothing including my mothers wedding dress. She even made little outfits for my Barbies that had the most amazing hand finished details. It was extremely inspiring. Growing up in a creative and supportive environment, I started to have an appreciation for hand made, high quality, unique pieces at an early age. I ended up going to college for fashion at the International Academy of Design and that is where I learned how to use a knitting machine for the first time. It was all just really exciting to be able to create every part of the garment from scratch: the design, the pattern and even the fabric itself.
